Day something (I don't want to count)

So I've fallen off the blogging wagon but not the workout wagon. I only missed one video / exercise so far this week, but i think the inordinate amount of yard work and wii time have made up for it.

Next week is my "Rest" week. Stretching, yoga, core... easy stuff I might throw an ab in there to make up for not doing it the first week.

I'll check my calendar and see what section 2 has in store for me.

So completely off topic.

Keeping Our Minds Supple
Questioning Everything

A lot of people feel threatened if they feel they are being asked to question their cherished beliefs or their perception of reality. Yet questioning is what keeps our minds supple and strong. Simply settling on one way of seeing things and refusing to be open to other possibilities makes the mind rigid and generally creates a restrictive and uncomfortable atmosphere. We all know someone who refuses to budge on one or more issues, and we may have our own sacred cows that could use a little prodding. Being open-minded means that we are willing to question everything, including those things we take for granted.

A willingness to question everything, even things we are sure we are right about, can shake us out of complacency and reinvigorate our minds, opening us up to understanding people and perspectives that were alien to us before. This alone is good reason to remain inquisitive, no matter how much experience we have or how old we get. In the Zen tradition, this willingness to question is known as beginner’s mind, and it has a way of generating possibilities we couldn’t have seen from the point of view of knowing something with certainty. The willingness to question everything doesn’t necessarily mean we don’t believe in anything at all, and it doesn’t mean we have to question every single thing in the world every minute of the day. It just means that we are humble enough to acknowledge how little we actually know about the mysterious universe we call home.

Nearly every revolutionary change in the history of human progress came about because someone questioned some time-honored belief or tradition and in doing so revealed a new truth, a new way of doing things, or a new standard for ethical and moral behavior. Just so, a commitment to staying open and inquisitive in our own individual lives can lead us to new personal revolutions and truths, truths that we will hopefully, for the sake of our growth, remain open to questioning.

Kenpo Day...

Well, kenpo got replaced with an hour of punch out on the wii with wrist weights, and 15 minutes of ab pwnzing.  Tonight is bowling.

Tomorrow, legs and back.

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Ok so I've been slacking.

I fell off the wagon, then used early morning shift as my excuse to not do anything the 2nd week, so I'm going to punish myself one week.  I'm back to week 2 of p90x.  Shoulders and Arms today.  I slowed down and worked on form today on my reps today, which really made my arms start to burn.   I think I need to get bigger weights again for some of the reps.  Chair dips are a killer though, I hope to be able to do the straight leg version next week at least for the first set.

Works Active for Life starts today.  10 weeks of logging all activities.  And if they count mowing, that leaves a lot open for interpretation.

I also started playing punchout on wii.  I need a balance board to make it an even more tiring experience.  :)

Kenpo tomorrow.

2 weeks in. Thoughts.

So I'm liking most of this so far, though there is the occasional morning where I am not quite feeling it.

I think I'm going to make some modifications to my current schedule.

I'm going to move Cardio from Tuesday, to Sunday, and not do the video except on weekends where I don't have a soccer game.  Soccer becomes my cardio workout.

Move Core from Monday to Tuesday.

Move Rest day from Sunday to Monday.

Let's see how that works for week 3.

Day 12 Legs and Back.

So I need to find a way to get my chin up bar higher.   I have a hard time doing large numbers of pull ups and chin ups when my feet touch the ground a third of the way down.

The leg stuff... I was sweating... didn't quite complete today, but that's because I just wasn't feeling very energetic or driven this morning.  I didn't want to push through.  I only had about 10 minutes left.

I did notice a little while later though my legs were already feeling weak when it came to going downstairs, so at least there was some good work out accomplished.

Tomorrow Kenpo... and anything else I can con bobby into doing.

Day 11 Yoga

Yoga this morning.  Man I'm not nearly as flexible as I used to be.  Hopefully continuing this though, that will change.

I got about an hour through it before the DVD froze up.  So both  the PS2 and the 360 are having issues with video playback.  I need to hurry up and get the 360 back in communication with the computer upstairs so I can just stream the video.

I looked at my side profile today in the mirror, and either my eyes are playing tricks on me or I'm already losing a little bit of tummy pudge.  Yay.  Now if only I LIKED to do the 15 minute AB PWNZER... instead of dreaded it.

Legs and Back tomorrow.  Trying to decide if I should do Kenpo before Bobby comes by saturday or if I should make him do it too.  That might be amusing.  :D

Day 10 Arms and Shoulders.

Did Arms and Shoulders this morning while thunder was crashing around the house.  Was pretty intense.  I got through 2/3rds of the first pass of the Bonus round today too.

I'm going to do Ab's tonight, I'm also thinking of throwing that in on Saturday or something.

Tomorrow is Yoga.  Hopefully I can get through that without dying.  :)

Day 8. Return to Core.

Sunday was Rest / Stretch, but after my soccer game, Stretch became an impossibility due to invites to multiple functions.

We made it through week one, with only a couple of minor interuptions.  I have come to a conclusion now doing core a second time.   My floor space is too small for things like superman banana.  Either I hit the enterntainment center or I hit the couch.  I could move the couch but that seems silly to move back and forth, but then again it might only be a one day a week thing so it could be doable.   I managed to hang in there pretty good given 4 hours of sleep, but I'm going to try and stay away from late sunday's again.

Tomorrow I think is cardio again.  Time to get worn out again, oh boy oh boy.

Day 6 Kenpo X.

Well Kenpo was today. . .   I mowed the yard and then came in and did it.

It's really cardio-intensive.   Balance is a good thing to have for some of the kicks.  I also need a little more coordination for the long combos, I kind of get confused.  When it's suppose to be 25 left, right, left things, I find myself going left right left right left righ... doh.

I think I'm going to do this on the ps2 from now on too, the 360 seems to freeze up in the middle of each video.

Day 4 Yoga.

Well I started Yoga today but about 3/4s the way through Tiffany showed up and we ended up going to the park and flying some kites we bought a while back before it got dark.

Bad me for not finishing.

Tonight is legs and back + more ab torture.   Tomorrow is Kenpo before going to Dallas, depending on if Dad is feeling well or not.  (I'm not driving to a BBQ if the only people I know other than the host aren't going.  I have things I can do around the house).

I haven't decided whether to mow the lawn tonight before or after legs and back.  I'm thinking before, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Day 3 Shoulders & Arms + Ab Pwnzers X

So the base portion of Shoulders & Arms is 4 routines of 3 exercises repeated twice.  One Shoulder, one bicep, and one tricep.  Then there is a bonus routine.

I made it through the 4 routines ok, was feeling some burn but not lots, which I don't want to overdo it but I may wear wrist weights next week.

When they said Bonus time, I went ahead and popped in Ab Pwnzer disc, just because I was running behind on time.   That is a 15-16 minute workout, I made it 10 minutes in before I couldn't move my mid section.   It felt like most of my work was on the lower back though, but that may be where my weakness is right now.  I'm going to try and make it through all of it Friday.

Tomorrow is Yoga, Tyler said that's 90 minutes, and since I'm doing the 7-4 shift tomorrow, I should probably do it after work.

The burn and soreness is down to a minimum today, so I guess either my legs are getting used to it, or having a day of arm work outs is a nice reprive for them.

Installed DIVX today, maybe I'll be working out from the PC soon.

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Uh oh...

Legs and Back is Friday.

Tomorrow is Shoulders and Arms.

Yikes.

If anything that's my weak point, since I'm a soccer player.

Oh well, here's to crying like a baby tomorrow.

Day 2. Cardio

So, I woke up kind of stiff, slightly sore.  Wasn't quite awake so I ran upstairs to check my email and what not first, come down stairs, pop in the DVD and lo and behold.  Cardio is only 45 minutes!  Cake I thought to myself, if I can play a 50 minute indoor game, I can do this.

HAH!

I was gassed 15 minutes in, but pushed on, occasionally stopping an exercise 15-20 seconds short simply because my muscles told me no more.  For the most part I got what they were trying to accomplish, but a couple of things I probably looked like a flailing monkey.  (Some of the kenpo punch combinations for instance)  I fell a couple of times during Yoga, but other than that, I kind of liked it.  The music could use a little variety, but I'll deal with that.

I couldn't do much the last 3-4 minutes before the cooldown, but I feel good.  Of course, the ultimate cooldown was the 80 mph scooter ride into work in 57 degree weather, but it's supposed to be 80 this afternoon, so I think it will have been worth it.

Tomorrow, is like... legs and back or something I think, AND AB PWnzers.... I'm going to hurt on Thursday.

I'm enjoying some of the soreness in my arms and back, working muscles I haven't had to use for years.

Shame that Bobo doesn't live down the street, and can come over in the mornings so I have a work out buddy.  There is a house for sale down the street, maybe I should just brainwash him.

Time to work I guess.

Day 1, Afternoon.

Not sure if it's the sitting all day or what, but my arms are starting to ache, and the back / side / core muscles are all starting to show signs of use.  I'm trying to remember to drink enough water to flush the toxins out.  Maybe I'll have some Advil tonight when I get home.

P90X Day one.

Day 1 Core Synergetics

Wow.
Don't do this the morning after a soccer game. Geez, I was already tuckered out when I woke up, the warm up stretching helped me feel better, but about 10 minutes from the end, I was gassed. Problem with doing pushups due to broken toe, hard to use as lower touch point.

Muscles feel a bit shaky this morning, so no telling how it's going to feel tomorrow.

Cardio tomorrow, this one I'm feeling better about, mainly because of what is probably a false notion of being at least in good cardio shape.

Got a post work out protein mix, doesn't taste too bad at all. Kind of like Strawberry Milk.
